The Academy of Healing Therapies is no longer offering courses. The Academy is now purely a Registered Health Provider clinic.
However, if you are looking for the right teaching organisation for YOU the following information may help you.
Here are the seven essential questions you should ask:
Q1. What are the qualifications of the teachers?
A. The person operating the college should be a fully accredited teacher with at least one Association and is a Registered Training Organisation.
Credentials should include Diploma in Remedial Massage or higher qualification as well as various other modalities. Hold a Certificate in Workplace Training and Assessing.
Q2. Can I apply for Austudy or Abstudy through your Academy?
A. You should be able to. Certificate IV and the Diploma in Remedial Massage should qualify for Austudy and Abstudy.
Q3. Can I transfer midway through a course to another college?
A. Yes. If you commence studying in Maroochydore and wish to move to Melbourne say (heaven forbid) your course is very portable and you can transfer without losing any credits. That is supposing that the Melbourne course is Nationally Accredited as well.
Q4. Are the courses offered accredited?
A. Yes. The Academy or college should be a Registered Training Organisation registered to deliver Nationally Accredited courses such as Certificate IV in Massage and Diploma in Remedial Massage.
Q5. How many students per class?
A. The number of students per class should be limited to allow for very individual tuition. More productive time and relaxed atmosphere
Q6. Will I get the individual tuition I need?
A. Most assuredly. Each and every student should receive all the individual attention they need
Q7. Do the teachers have a commitment to ongoing professional development?
A. Yes. This is mandatory to the industry to make sure that skills are updated by attending workshops and seminars to be better able to offer you the very best and latest techniques available.
How can I get clients?
When I first started to learn massage I practiced on family and friends.
I coerced my friends into coming to my place once or twice a week to put up with my somewhat inept technique (at the time I thought I was pretty good).
Time went by and I was learning more and more about the body and muscle structure and my friends were benefiting greatly from their regular massage.
By the time I got to the end of the course I had built myself a reputation for giving a pretty good massage and all my work came via Word of Mouth.
I did not have to advertise in ten years of practice in the one town.
I moved to the Sunshine Coast in November 1995 and had to start all over again.
I decided to enlist the help of the Yellow Pages as I no longer had my entourage of friends to rely on to pass the good word.
The Yellow pages have been good to me and this led to further word of mouth which has been my greatest advertising ever and can be yours with the help of some of your friends.
Look after your existing clients and they will provide you with new clients and so the cycle evolves.
Will my size be a deterrent? Do I need to be big and muscley? Do I need to be heavy and strong?
NO! NO! NO!
As I said before, I’m tiny and weigh less that a bantamweight boxer! All it takes is know-how and those skills should be included in your course. YOU TOO can do the same thing by learning special techniques.
What you do need is to learn the proper technique to be able to work with people of all sizes and shapes.
This includes learning the way to stand properly, hold yourself in the right manner and be flexible in your delivery of the massage techniques.
I am 151 cm tall, weigh 43 kg dripping wet and when a large person (mainly man) walks through my door, looks at me, (you can mentally see him saying to himself what do you think you can do for me, I am in pain and you are so small).
All I can say at this point is Technique, Technique, Technique.
I have been able to make grown men cry and yet come back for more because the techniques work and are able to give that person more flexibility and freedom from pain, thereby giving them a greater quality of life and to me that is what massage is all about, giving a greater quality of life. YOU TOO can do the same thing by learning these techniques.
Be sure to ask your teacher if these techniques are covered in the course.

Q. Why is Colour Therapy so helpful? |
When a person is out of balance either mentally, physically, emotionally or spiritually, they often lack one or more colours in their spectrum. Because each one of us is genetically unique, our colour spectrums differ. It is vital to have your exact colour deficiency checked prior to treatment. Application of a specific colour may aggravate a problem in one person, but soothe the emotions, or reduce pain in another. Correct colour rebalancing will settle your emotions and encourage faster physical healing.

Q. Why do our Chakras need to be balanced? |
Clients whose Chakras are out of balance typically experience more problems with physical ill health than others.
The vitality of your Chakras promotes the efficient functioning of all your body systems. Balancing the heart Chakra may reduce the experience of angina or heavy feelings in the chest. Balancing the sacral and base Chakras, reduces digestive disorders. When these Chakras are out of balance, it is not uncommon for a man’s libido to suffer. Unhappy ex-partners can energetically hold on to him and deplete his energy in these Chakras. Many men suffering from impotency have experienced a full recovery once this issue has been addressed.

|
Q. How can I tell if my Chakras are out of balance? |
The balance and energy of your Chakras is vital to your well-being. They can be affected by close contact, or even speaking with certain people. In some cases, a person can link into and drain your energy just by thinking about you. Have you ever experienced someone saying that you make them feel good, only to feel totally drained after your conversation or visit with them? Such people do not mean to harm you. They are often emotionally needy and require extra energy, which they obtain by tapping into the vital energy of others. Effects can vary from subtle to very strong feelings of depression or a drain in physical energy.
